What is Autism?
When people refer to “Autism,” they are usually referring to Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), a brain-based disorder that is characterized by social-communication challenges and restricted and repetitive behaviors, activities, and interests.
Autism is about four times more likely to affect boys than girls and is found in all racial, ethnic, and social groups.
If you are wondering whether your child has Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and would like an assessment, we are the right service for you.
People with ASD commonly struggle with every-day interaction, social communication, and repetitive or restricted behaviours.
ASD Assessments – The Process
Our highly-qualified psychiatrists follow a set process for ASD assessments that can be carried out either in-person or online, depending on your personal preferences. Our assessment process comprises of:
- Psychiatric History – Our psychiatrists will study previous reports from GP’s, schools, and other bodies.
- Detailed neurodevelopment History– Involves asking questions about early childhood development and current behaviours.
- Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule – This is considered the ”Gold Standard” in diagnosing ASD. Involves semi-structured assessment of social interaction.
- Autism Spectrum Rating Scales – (Parent and School) – A technical report providing that is used to assist in measuring ASD.
