The Therapy Company’s Carbon Reduction Plan has a wide-ranging strategy focused on reducing energy consumption in our office through energy efficiency upgrades, transitioning to renewable energy sources as an when appropriate, optimizing waste management, promoting sustainable transportation options for staff and patients, and actively engaging with suppliers to reduce their carbon footprint, all with a clear target to achieve net-zero emissions by 2040, aligning with the NHS’s “Delivering a Net Zero National Health Service” vision.

The key elements of our Plan are:

Energy Efficiency

o Optimising heating and cooling systems.

Transportation

o Encouraging walking, cycling, and public transport use for staff and patients.

o Further implementation of virtual consultations to reduce unnecessary travel for both patients and staff. The Therapy Company is already well advanced in using virtual consultations.

Waste Management

o Streamlining waste collection and recycling programs.

o Minimizing single-use supplies and promoting reusable alternatives.

o Implementing waste reduction initiatives throughout the office.

Procurement

o Prioritising sustainable procurement practices by selecting suppliers with strong environmental credentials.

o Evaluating the carbon footprint of equipment when making purchasing decisions.

Staff Engagement

o Raising awareness about sustainability issues through training and communication campaigns.

o Empowering staff to identify and implement carbon reduction opportunities within their own practice.

Monitoring and Reporting

• Regularly tracking energy consumption, carbon emissions, and progress towards targets.

• Publishing transparent reports on sustainability performance to stakeholders.

Alignment with NHS Strategy

o Ensure the plan aligns with the "Greener NHS" initiative and the "Delivering a Net Zero National Health Service" report.

• Promoted active commuting, employing local staff and encouraging them to walk or take public transport wherever possible

• Facilitated recycling and reuse of company hardware

• Introduced digital consumables management to reduce waste

• Identification of cost-effective emission reduction opportunities and commitment to required changes in operations to deliver them

Planned Carbon Reduction Initiatives

In the future, we plan to do the following:

• Confirm agreed carbon reduction initiatives at Director level in collaboration with all staff.

• Provide online carbon literacy training to key staff

• Issue internal communications about the importance of the Net Zero project and engaging ways to encourage colleagues to commit to making changes

• Develop an external communications plan, including website content that highlights how The Therapy Company’s services support the delivery of net zero ambitions.

Emission Scope Categories

Scope 1: Direct carbon emissions from owned or controlled sources

Scope 2: Indirect carbon emissions from consumed purchased electricity.

Scope 3: Indirect carbon emissions from all other business activities.

Scope 1: We do not own any company vehicles, however, as part of the Carbon Reduction Plan comms with staff they are encouraged to use public transport / cycle / walk and look to replace their cars with hybrid or plug in models when they are thinking about changing their cars.

Scope 2: This measured 638kwh in January 2025 and this measurement is a typical figure for the winter months. It is our aim to reduce this by a minimum of 10% per year through to 2040.

Scope 3: This is included in our Scope 1 aspirations; we also discourage unnecessary use of laptops and other electrical equipment.

In addition, we will:

• Advocate for the use of green energy suppliers to any building in which we are a tenant

• Prioritise environmental considerations when furnishing new buildings, including using recycled furniture.
