Counselling
How Does It Work?
Our professionally trained counsellors in Preston are fully equipped to handle all types of problems and issues, using proven techniques and methods to help you through your difficult emotions and feelings. Our counsellors offer person-centred counselling, an approach devised by Carl Rogers.
This approach is based on the philosophy that you enter the room with your counsellor and have the freedom and space to freely express all your feelings and emotions safely. When you work with our counsellors at The Therapy Company, you gain the power and freedom to change with no limitations. Counselling arrangements can be one-to-one or as a couple if you’re looking to resolve relationship problems. The number of sessions required will depend largely on your circumstances and what you’re looking to achieve from counselling.

We offer counselling to adults who are looking for professional assistance when suffering from mental health conditions, such as depression and anxiety. Our Counselling Sessions
Within the first counselling session, we will take the time to really get to know you better and understand your difficulties on a more personal level. It’s good to see the first session as a fact-find and a session for building trust between our counsellor and yourself.
We’ll take the time to understand the specific difficulties, feelings and emotions that you’re going through before proposing a plan to work through them to get you feeling like yourself again. If you’re happy to proceed, the next 5-8 sessions will be strategically working through your difficulties by getting you to question the more negative feelings that you’re experiencing. In some cases, it may be that it’s in your best interest for our team to recommend and type of talking therapy, such as CBT for example.
How Can Counselling Help?
Counselling, and other talking therapies, can help you to cope with various mental health conditions such as depression, anxiety or eating disorders by working through difficult feelings and emotions. As human beings, we experience a wide spectrum of emotions that are constantly going up and down. Counselling can help you to best navigate the changes in your feelings and emotions, better managing the more negative emotions such as low self-esteem or anger, for example. Other issues can also be helped through counselling such as sexual identity.
