Dr Lakshmi Ramasubramanian

I am an experienced Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist. I have worked in Psychiatry for over 20 years and have been a Consultant in the NHS for 13 years.

I worked in Paediatrics before realising that I loved working as a psychiatrist and particularly enjoy working with children and their families. I find making a difference to the lives of children and their families highly rewarding and satisfying.

I have extensive clinical knowledge and skills in treating mental health difficulties in children and young people with Neurodevelopmental Disorders such as ASD, ADHD alongside anxieties including OCD, specific phobias, school attendance problems and mood difficulties. I am ADOS trained and able to assess and diagnose for autistic spectrum disorders in conjunction with colleagues.

I also have several years of experience in offering consultations and treatments for children with neuropsychiatric presentations, epilepsy and Tics.

In my NHS job. I am also a clinical supervisor, and I am involved in teaching and training of medical and non-medical colleagues. I have held several senior educational roles and continue to offer leadership in Medical Education.

I have published several articles in peer reviewed journals on mental health and behavioural difficulties of children with Learning Disabilities and Autism.

Areas of Interest

I am a specialist in neurodevelopmental disorders such as ADHD and Autism Spectrum Disorder and can help with associated difficulties including Generalised anxiety, panic attacks, specific phobias, voice hearing, OCD and school refusal.

I believe in making sense of the story children and families present with and to understand it holistically in the context of each child’s personality and their environment. I value working with my colleagues and prescribe medication at the correct and effective dose and ensure that children are closely monitored.
