Home Detox
PRIVATE AND CONFIDENTIAL
A private alcohol home detox is exactly what it says on the tin.
We pride ourselves on supplying the utmost privacy and confidentiality for our patients.
For individuals struggling with alcohol or drug addiction. A home detox program can indeed be a viable option for those who can't commit to a residential facility due to personal or logistical reasons, provided the detox is medically managed and tailored to the individual's needs.
When is Home Detox Right?
- Home detox is ideal for individuals who have a mild to moderate addiction and are in generally good health. If withdrawal symptoms are expected to be manageable, or if the person has strong support at home, this option can be very effective.
- However, if the person has a long history of heavy substance use, or if withdrawal symptoms are expected to be severe (e.g., in cases of alcohol withdrawal or opioid dependence), a medical facility may be a safer option.

Key Points
Here are some key points to keep in mind when considering home detox:
1 - Medically Supervised Detox
Safety First: Withdrawal from alcohol or drugs can be physically and psychologically dangerous. A medically supervised home detox ensures that health professionals are available to monitor the process and manage any severe withdrawal symptoms or complications.
Personalized Plan: Every individual’s needs are different, so a detox plan should be customized. Medical professionals can assess the person’s health history, addiction severity, and specific drug use patterns to create a safe and effective detox plan.
2 - Support System
24/7 Support: It’s essential that clients have a responsible person with them during the 7 day programme, they may need to call emergency services if symptoms become severe.
Emotional Support: In addition to medical support, counselling and therapy play an important role in home detox. Ongoing emotional and psychological support helps to address the root causes of addiction, easing the transition to recovery.
3 - Medication-Assisted Detox
Withdrawal Management: For some individuals, medications can be prescribed to ease withdrawal symptoms, reduce cravings, and prevent medical complications. This can significantly reduce the discomfort and risks of detox.
Tailored Approach: The medications and the tapering process are customized based on the substance used, the person's medical history, and the severity of the addiction.
4 - Flexibility & Comfort
Familiar Environment: Home detox allows individuals to stay in a familiar setting, which can reduce stress and anxiety that may arise from being in an unfamiliar facility. It also provides privacy and the ability to maintain family and work obligations.
Personalized Environment: Home detox can be adjusted to a person's specific preferences, allowing them to feel more in control and at ease during the process.
5 - Follow-up and Ongoing Care
Aftercare: Detox is just the first step in addiction recovery. It’s important to have a clear aftercare plan in place, such as ongoing therapy, support groups, and relapse prevention strategies. Our detox programs offer outpatient follow-up care and continued support.
A home detox program, when done under professional supervision, can be a highly effective and safe way for individuals to overcome alcohol or drug addiction without the need for a residential facility. It offers a supportive, flexible, and comfortable environment while ensuring medical oversight for safety.
If this is something you’re looking to pursue, it’s important to consult with a medical professional to determine whether home detox is appropriate for your situation.
STEPS
Step 1: Initial Call
The first step is to give us a call to speak with one of our addiction counsellors. It's nothing to worry about, just a few questions for us to find out some information about the client and the situation with alcohol. We have lots of great advice. Simply call us on 01772 347960. You'll find out more about a home detox and what's involved. This call helps us understand client needs, overall health and how we can best help. The call is 100% confidential and should take no longer than 10 - 15 mins - more if you want to talk anything through.
Step 2: Consultation With Doctor
Once the initial call and assessment is complete, we arrange a client appointment with our doctor. This is a medical consultation where the client and the doctor will discuss the best treatment options. It's a two-way interaction, so please ask the doctor anything you want and tell them what’s been going on. You can also tell the doctor of any other health issues you have, maybe aches and pains or stomach upset, as they may be able to treat them too, to help with your overall health and well-being. During the consultation, the doctor will diagnose the situation and any potential withdrawals, ensuring client safety and comfort during the detox process. The doctor then prescribes any detox medications tailored to client specific needs. These normally include a benzodiazepine, such as Librium or Valium, vitamins including Thiamine, and any other medications to help ease the alcohol withdrawals. The doctor will also determine approximately how long the detox should take. This is normally seven days, but could be slightly less or more, depending on how acute the doctor thinks the symptoms may be.
Step 3: Receive Medications
There are usually two ways of obtaining the medications: by picking them up at a pharmacy of choice, or by post. Most people prefer to receive by post for convenience. We post them for next day guaranteed delivery. Clients will receive everything they need for the medical detox, including written instructions. It's important to follow the instructions provided by the doctor and take the medication as prescribed. If you have any concerns or questions about your medication, our team is always available to assist you.
Step 4: Start Detox With Our Support
Clients can start the detox as soon as they receive the medications and begin their journey to sobriety and recovery. We are here for support during the detox, and we will check in regularly to ensure everything is going well. This will include a follow up with the Doctor as well as sessions with our Addictions specialist. Clients can sometimes experience a level of withdrawal symptoms that can be uncomfortable and need reassured and supported. Or, maybe, have the need to talk to someone about any issues or concerns. We are here for you and just a phone call or Zoom call away, ready to provide support. We will be here the whole detox and after a couple of days, clients should start to feel a lot better. The process is worth it. A life, free from alcohol/drugs, starts with a detox.
