Dr Kathryn Gardner

Trainee Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist

(Senior Lecturer in Psychology, PhD, Chartered Psychologist with the British Psychological Society, Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, Student Member of British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies)

While training to become a Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist, I continue to work as a Senior Lecturer in Psychology at the University of Central Lancashire and have over 20 years of experience in the field. I work alongside a team of clinical psychologists, academics, mental health clinicians, and individuals with lived experience of mental health challenges.

My expertise lies in self-harm and personality difficulties (often termed personality disorder), and my research publications in this area appear in practice-based journals, emphasising insights that can be applied to clinical practice and NHS therapeutic services. I also have extensive experience in teaching and publishing on a range of mental health topics, including general anxiety disorder, panic disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, depression, and eating disorders.

Colleagues and peers describe me as open-minded, non-judgmental, and accepting. I am deeply passionate about the idea that all thoughts, feelings, and behaviours are understandable when considered in context. I am committed to helping individuals explore and make sense of their experiences in a compassionate and supportive environment.

I am working under the supervision of Professor Karen Wright to ensure that each of my clients receives high-quality therapy.
