Dr Kathryn Gardner

Trainee Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist

(Senior Lecturer in Psychology, PhD, Chartered Psychologist with the British Psychological Society, Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, Student Member of British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies)

As I train to become a Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist, I continue my role as a Senior Lecturer and Chartered Psychologist at the University of Central Lancashire, bringing over 20 years of experience in the field. I work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team of clinical psychologists, academics, mental health clinicians, and individuals with lived experience of mental health challenges.

My current research focuses on self-harm, with publications appearing in practice-based journals that aim to inform and enhance clinical practice within NHS therapeutic services. In addition to this, I have a broad background in teaching and publishing on a range of mental health topics, including generalised anxiety disorder, panic disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, depression, and eating disorders.

Colleagues and peers often describe me as open-minded, non-judgmental, and compassionate. I strongly believe that all thoughts, feelings, and behaviours make sense when understood within their context. This perspective is deeply informed by my own lived experience with depression and anxiety, as well as my role as a mother of two and a member of a neurodivergent family. These experiences shape my commitment to providing a supportive, empathetic, and inclusive therapeutic environment.

I am working under the supervision of Professor Karen Wright to ensure that each of my clients receives high-quality therapy.
