What Is Bowen Therapy?
Bowen Therapy sessions are provided by Judith Kilgallon at The Therapy Company Centre. Judith is a Complementary Therapist who qualified in The Bowen Technique in 2012 and has a passion for providing Bowen Therapy to help clients relieve symptoms for pain management. Bowen Therapy itself is a form of therapy that focuses on using fingers and thumbs on specific areas such as muscles, tendons, and ligaments. As a result of focused hand rolling movements in these areas, pain is reduced by stimulating the nervous system.
The focus of Bowen Therapy is to get the body to switch to a more relaxed state and out of the fight or flight responses which can cause unnecessary stress to various areas of the body. Although Bowen Therapy isn’t a medical treatment, it can relieve pain and increase motor function.
What Can You Expect?
Bowen Therapy is suitable for all ages and treatments can be adapted to be delivered whilst you are sitting, standing or lying down. You can expect Bowen Therapy to last anywhere anywhere between 30 minutes to 1 hour. Judith – our Complementary Therapist – will make sure you feel comfortable before the session begins and will ask specific questions to identify where the main pain and stress is currently located in your body. Once the session begins, Judith will make moves with her fingers and thumbs to apply gentle, rolling movements on specific areas.
The total number of sessions you’ll need will depend on your personal circumstances and current level of pain or stress. Factors to take into consideration when deciding on the quantity of sessions required will depend on the following; your symptoms, the severity of your condition, and your direct response to Bowen Therapy within the first few sessions.
